Europe and Canada: Contemporary Issues

A joint initiative of the Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor and the CEACS (Central European Association for Canadian Studies)

 

In the 21st century, both Canada and Europe are faced with many similar social and cultural challenges, many of which, however, emerged earlier in the Canadian context. Canada being a crucible for cultural change, it forms an excellent basis for opening discussion of parallel situations, especially among the younger generation of Europeans and in what has been called the ‘New Europe‘.

 

As the first Summer school of this kind in the region, Maribor/CEACS 2008 will deal with a selection of the key contemporary issues facing our societies in the 21st century from a multi-disciplinary approach. 

 

Issues addressed will include the following:

 

 

 

The organizers of the Summer School would welcome proposals from teachers in any of these areas.

 

Teachers would be asked to give a minimum of two 90-minute presentations. Combinations of lectures, discussion and workshops are encouraged.

 

The Summer School will cover costs of transport, accommodation and meals for teachers.

 

Teachers interested in taking part in the summer school are asked to send a brief description of the presentation they would be prepared to offer, as well as the dates that would suit them best, to Michelle Gadpaille (michelle.gadpaille@uni-mb.si), by
